WHO and ITU to use digital technology to strengthen public health services in Africa

afro.who (26.10.2017) With Africa currently undergoing a digital revolution, the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) today signed a Cooperation Agreement in Geneva, on using digital services to save lives and improve people’s health.

US: NIOSH uses mobile medical screening trucks to test coal miners for black lung

The Exponent Telegram (17.10.2017) Preventing and understanding respiratory diseases, especially those faced by coal miners, is one of the core missions of the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health, Respiratory Health facility in Morgantown. A part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, NIOSH has facilities across the country. The one in Morgantown, next door to Ruby Memorial Hospital, opened in 1996. One of the facility’s four divisions is dedicated to respiratory health research and implementing new discoveries to the workplace.

Versicherte der Privaten Krankenversicherung (PKV) wünschen sich häufig eine digitale Abrechnung, Ärzte sind dabei aber noch sehr zögerlich. Eine elektronische Patientenakte würden aber sowohl Ärzte als auch Patienten sehr begrüßen und sehen darin mehrere Vorteile.

UN glimpses blockchain future with eye scan payments for refugees

Zilient - Reuteur (21.07.2017) Thousands of Syrian refugees in Jordan's Azraq camp don't pay for their food with cash but by a scan of their eyes. Purchases are then recorded on a computing platform based on blockchain - the technology behind bitcoin. The U.N. agency launched the futuristic system in May as a one-month pilot involving 10,000 of Azraq's more than 50,000 inhabitants in a bid to explore blockchain's potential to cut costs and bottlenecks.
