The Daily Star (30.06.2020) The government of Bangladesh has taken several positive measures to cope with the current crisis. On 7 April 2020, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced special insurance and stimulus for healthcare workers (HCWs) and other employees of the republic for their frontline roles in the fight against coronavirus. Special incentives include health insurance of Tk 5-10 lakh (according to rank), and the amount will be five times higher if anyone is at higher risk of death or dies from the virus.

Bangladesh: Govt to bear costs of private hospitals treating Covid-19 patients

Dhaka Tribune (10.05.2020) The government has decided to bear the operational costs of undersigned private hospitals treating Covid-19 patients. Medical professionals and others working at these hospitals will be paid by the government.   

However, private medical professionals will not be eligible for the same financial facilities as government employees. Government medical professionals are set to receive bonus salaries and will also get monetary aid if they contract or die from Covid-19.

brac.net (14.05.2020) Almost 18 million people live in extreme poverty in Bangladesh. The impact of COVID-19 on their livelihoods has been catastrophic. Research by BIGD and PPRC shows a 73% drop in income in households living in extreme poverty when measured in the first week of April 2020 compared to two months prior. The biggest challenge during COVID-19 is how to get relief to these people, who often live in hard-to-reach areas.

newagebd (01.10.2018) Migrant rights activists on Sunday demanded ensuring social protection of migrant workers and their dependents. Speaking at a workshop they said that it was the duty of the state to provide the social protection to the migrant workers’ as their immense contributions cannot be estimated in money terms.
The ‘Validation Workshop on Social Cost of Migration’ was organized by WARBE Development Foundation in the conference room of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training.
