Non au retour du tâcheronnage ! | Alternatives Economiques

Submitted by dfabbri on Fri, 04/12/2019 - 09:25

BusinessMirror (11.04.2019) On paper, the Philippines and other Member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) are all committed to the protection of their citizens against social and economic risks. However, the adequacy of the social protection extended to the ordinary people is still limited, as reflected in the social spending made by Asean countries on social protection, roughly 4-6 percent of the GDP versus the 20-24 percent in the developed countries.

Graying Asia: How Pension Systems Fail to Respond to Dramatic Aging

Submitted by dfabbri on Tue, 03/12/2019 - 14:39

Tthenewslens (12.03.2019) he past few years have seen workers in Asia becoming increasingly restive and concerned over pensions. Demands for reform have erupted into street protests in China, French Polynesia, India, New Zealand, and everywhere in between. The Asia-Pacific has a relatively young population with a high ratio of workers to dependents – i.e., children and the elderly – and this has contributed substantially to the region’s sustained rapid economic growth in the past few decades.
