[Report] India, Nepal, Rwanda, and Tanzania: No Time to Rest: Women’s Lived Experiences of Balancing Paid Work and Unpaid Care Work

Submitted by fabbri on

socialprotection.org (2017) This report provides evidence on the lived experiences of women in low-income families, as they strive to balance their paid work and unpaid care work responsibilities. It presents the findings of a mixed-methods research project carried out in India, Nepal, Rwanda, and Tanzania during 2015–17. The findings of the research are clear and strong: that while women welcome the chance to earn income of almost any kind, their paid work options are few and poorly paid, and by no means contribute to their ‘economic empowerment’.

Towards a shock-sensitive social protection system in Malawi

Submitted by massetti on

Malawi faces recurrent cyclical crises that prevent long-term poverty reduction. The country has a high exposure to climate risks – such as dry spells, drought and flooding. These, combined with high levels of poverty, food insecurity, and vulnerability to seasonal patterns of production and consumption, result in frequent shocks and emergencies.

Submitted by -zhu on

rand.org (2012) Old-age disability and long-term care (LTC) have not yet been well studied in China. Using logistic regressions and a prevalence ratio projection model, and considering international practices, this dissertation addresses three research questions: What are the key risk factors for old-age disability in China? What are the projected numbers of older adults with disabilities in China in future decades through 2050?
