EU: Better work-life balance: closing the gender employment gap?

EurActiv (06.03.2019) A positive work-life balance contributes to a more inclusive labour market, reducing the gender employment gap and raising individuals’ quality of life. Despite some progress, female participation in the workforce is lower than for men and the gap becomes much larger for women with children or caring duties.

Gender equality: Seminar in Reykjavik, Iceland 2018

Documents, presentation and other related material from the Seminar in Reykjavik in June 2018 on gender equality and gender mainstreaming as a tool to reduce the gender pay gap and the gender pension gap, resulting from a lower participation of women in the labour market, part-time jobs and lower wages.

It also showed the example of Iceland, where non transferable maternity and paternity leaves led to an increased participation of the fathers in the care and education of children and therefore creating more equality.

Les Echos (05.07.2018) Personne n'a jamais dit à l'algorithme du service de véhicule avec chauffeur qu'il fallait pénaliser les femmes. Mais, bon gré mal gré, c'est ce qu'il fait.

The rush by global policymakers to discourage the use of petrol and diesel cars risks punishing the poorest in society.

Increasingly onerous emissions standards as well as the promotion of ride-sharing and electric cars risks benefiting the wealthy and those in big cities at the expense of the poor and those in rural areas, according to a new report.
