Croatia: Wage subsidies to help companies retain employees

vlada.gov.hr (02.04.2020) The Government elaborated the April package of measures through several conclusions and decisions, as well as legislative proposals, such as amendments to the General Tax Law, the Budget Execution Act, and the Accounting Act, which it referred to for urgent parliamentary procedure. The government has thus decided to increase support for entrepreneurs in difficulties in preserving jobs by paying workers' salaries from HRK 3,250 to HRK 4,000 net.

regierung.li (20.03.2020) Die Regierung hat bereits beschlossen, dass alle öffentlichen und privaten Bildungseinrichtungen sowie ausserhäusliche Kinderbetreuungseinrichtungen und Spielgruppen geschlossen werden. Diese Massnahme gilt bereits ab heute Montag, 16. März 2020, bis zu den Osterferien. In zwingenden Fällen wird bis einschliesslich Freitag, 20. März 2020, in Kitas, Kindergärten und Primarschulen ein Überbrückungsangebot geschaffen. Erfreulicherweise bilden sich jetzt spontan Gruppen von Personen, die Kinderhütedienste organisieren wollen.

Building effective short-time work schemes for the COVID-19 crisis

Evidence suggests that it can have large positive effects on employment and can be more effective than unemployment insurance or universal transfers. This column discusses how the COVID-19 crisis – with its mandated reduction in hours of work and massive liquidity crunch for firms – is a textbook case for the use of short-time work.

UE: Commission proposes SURE (Support to mitigate Unemployment Risks in an Emergency)

ec.europa.eu (02.04.2020) The new instrument for temporary Support to mitigate Unemployment Risks in an Emergency (SURE) is designed to help protect jobs and workers affected by the coronavirus pandemic. It will provide financial assistance, in the form of loans granted on favourable terms from the EU to Member States, of up to €100 billion in total. These loans will assist Member States to address sudden increases in public expenditure to preserve employment.

Qatar to pay workers in quarantine full salaries
