The Gambia Social Registry: A Success Story in Systems Building

blogs.worldbank.org (23.04.2024) Since its inception, GamSR's data has played a pivotal role in various programs in The Gambia, notably the 'Nafa Quick' initiative, which formed the cornerstone of the Government of The Gambia (GoTG) COVID-19 pandemic response. It swiftly reached 78,422 households in 30 districts, to mitigate the adverse effects of the pandemic on impoverished households. Subsequently, the Nafa (cash transfers) program, aimed at providing cash to the poorest, covered 20 districts and 16,966 households, employing GamSR data for eligibility assessments.

Gambia: Government To Disburse D100m Tourism Recovery Fund

The Gambia Government plans to give the country’s struggling tourism industry a lifeline with a support package of one hundred million dalasi. The Government agreed to provide a one-off cash transfer of US$50 to each of the small-scale tourism actors whose contact details are available. Since then arrangement were made with Africell for the transfer to each beneficiary.

Gambia: Gambia announces Covid-19 response food package

Apanews.net (25.04.2020) The Gambia government has shipped in a large consignment of rice and sugar to ease the livelihood challenges of the citizenry amid Covid-19 lock down. The over 300,000 bags of  rice and sugar have been off loaded and packed at the Mcmarthy Square in  Banjul, pending distribution to households in all regions in the  country.
