The President worked with Congress to secure bipartisan legislation that will provide emergency relief to families and small businesses that have been impacted by the coronavirus. This unprecedented relief package totals more than $2 trillion. The CARES Act provides much needed economic relief for American families and businesses who are hurting through no fault of their own.

usatoday.com (28.03.2020) On Friday, President Donald Trump signed a $2 trillion stimulus bill to help millions of Americans stay afloat during the coronavrus pandemic, as many were laid off or are struggling financially. Under the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, included in the stimulus bill, freelancers and gig workers can receive half the average unemployment benefit in their state and an extra $600 per week.   The new assistance program was created to help qualify self-employed workers who couldn't file for regular unemployment insurance.

nytimes.com (18.03.2020) A relief package to provide sick leave, unemployment benefits, free coronavirus testing, and food and medical aid to people affected by the pandemic was signed into law by President Trump on Wednesday evening after the Senate passed it by a wide margin. It was approved by the House last week. 

“This is a time for urgent bipartisan action, and in this case, I do not believe we should let perfection be the enemy of something that will help even a subset of workers,” Mr. McConnell said on the Senate floor Wednesday morning.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Employment Security announced Wednesday they'll take additional steps to support those impacted by COVID-19. The Pritzker Administration will file emergency rules this week to clarify those unemployed due to COVID-19 can qualify.
