Korea: Tackling COVID-19. Health, Quarantine and Economic Measures

On 29 February, the number of new COVID-19 cases for the day surged to 909 in Korea. 4 weeks later, on March 30, the number of new cases dropped to 78. “South Korea took rapid, intrusive measures against COVID-19 and they worked” (The Guardian, March 20).

Norway: New measures to curb the financial impacts of the coronavirus outbreak

regjeringen.no (27.03.2020) Friday 27 March, the Government put forward additional financial measures to address the consequences of the coronavirus outbreak. Health related measures include:
- Employers are to be reimbursed for sickness benefits paid from the fourth day onwards for sickness absence related to the coronavirus;
- Employees are given the right to self-report sickness for 16 days even though the employer only pays from Day 4;

Chile: Se extienden capacidades de hospitales, y se incluye test de Covid-19

gob.cl (31.03.2020) Para financiar la compra de insumos y equipamientos necesarios, el fortalecimiento de la operación de los hospitales, fortalecimiento de laboratorios de diagnóstico, la extensión de los horarios de urgencia, la habilitación de camas adicionales, los hospitales de construcción rápida y otras necesidades, se creó un fondo de $220 mil millones. Así, ya se ordenó la compra de 600 ventiladores mecánicos más, que junto a otras adquisiciones y donaciones de China, llegarán a mil.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said:"The investment will be sizable and reach €25 billion quickly. To realise this, I will propose to Council and Parliament this week to release €7.5 billion of investment liquidity.
