Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family (17.07.2020) The unemployment benefit period is extended to those insured persons whose 6-month unemployment benefit period would have expired during the crisis situation related to the spread of COVID-19, ie since the declaration of the emergency on 12 March 2020. If the 6-month unemployment benefit period expired between 12 March and 4 April 2020 (amendment of the Social Insurance Act), this support period is extended from 4 April 2020. The said 6-month unemployment benefit period is extended as follows:
- on the basis of § 293et par. 1 of Act no. 461/2003 Coll. on social insurance for one month (first extension),
- on the basis of the Regulation of the Government of the Slovak Republic of 24.4.2020 by one month (second extension),
- on the basis of the Regulation of the Government of the Slovak Republic of 27 May 2020 for one month (third extension),
- on the basis of the Regulation of the Government of the Slovak Republic of 3 July 2020 by one month (fourth extension).
End of extended unemployment benefit period
An order of the Government of the Slovak Republic of 3 July 2020 set the latest date for the expiry of the support period, which was extended, namely 31 August 2020.
This means that if the 6-month unemployment benefit period has elapsed during the crisis, at the time of:
- from 12 March 2020 to 30 April 2020, the support period will be extended by 4 months from the right to the first extension, ie it will expire during August,
- from 1 May 2020 to 30 August 2020, the support period shall be extended until 31 August 2020 at the latest and shall not be extended regardless of whether the crisis situation persists (a crisis situation is an emergency situation, an emergency situation or a state of emergency declared in COVID-19).
