[Report] Linking taxation and social protection: Evidence on redistribution and poverty reduction in Ethiopia

ictd.ac (06.01.2017) The reduction of poverty, and more recently inequality, are pressing concerns in many low- and middle-income countries, not in the least as a result of the Sustainable Development Goals committing countries to significant improvements by 2030. Redistribution is important for reaching these goals, and is shaped by countries’ tax and welfare systems.

Malta's social protection expenditure among lowest in the EU

Times of Malta (21.12.2016) Social protection expenditure in Malta was among the lowest in the EU, representing just 19 per cent of the gross domestic product. Eurostat, the EU’s statistical agency, said today that social protection expenditure in the EU increased from 28.3 per cent of the GDP in 2011 to 28.7 per cent in 2014.
