Bahrain: The Minister of Labor praises the royal directives for launching the financial and economic package for the private sector

Private sector employees who are registered with the national Social Insurance Organization will have their salaries paid for 3 months from April 2020 from the Unemployment Fund, according to the maximum salary stipulated in the Social Insurance Law, and that with a total value of 215 million BD.

Chile: Pacto de reduccion tempral de la jornada de trabajo

gob.cl (01.04.2020) Los empleadores pueden acordar con el trabajador de manera individual o colectiva reducir hasta el 50% de la duración de su jornada de trabajo, recibiendo un complemento de la remuneración con cargo al Seguro de Cesantía. El trabajador percibirá además un complemento a su remuneración con cargo a su cuenta individual por cesantía y, una vez agotado, con cargo al Fondo de Cesantía Solidario que será de hasta un 25% de su remuneración, si la reducción de jornada es un 50% (con tope de $225.000 mensuales).

Chile: Bono Covid-19

chile.as.com (27.03.2020) El bono Covid-19 que entregará el Estado como una ayuda económica a los sectores más vulnerables tendrá un monto equivalente al Subsidio Único Familiar (SUF), que según cifras oficiales beneficiará a cerca de dos millones de personas (más o menos 3 millones de familias). El monto en particular asciende a la cifra de 50.000 pesos por carga familiar. El bono está destinado a aquellos que no cuentan actualmente con un trabajo formal- esto en aras de ayudar a las personas afectadas por los despidos.

Romania: Government to pay unemployment benefits temporarily

The set of measures to be analyzed and adopted by the Government on Wednesday aims to increase the liquidity of the companies, support the companies that temporarily suspend their activity in paying the technical unemployment benefits (75% of wages) to their employees, reduce the direct interaction of citizens with state institutions (by for instance extending the tax payment deadlines), and stimulate the production capacities for goods needed during this crisis, mainly sanitary protection materials, disinfectants.

Sweden: Short-term layoffs – strengthened support in 2020 for short-time work schemes

government.se (19.03.2020) In light of the COVID-19 virus, the Government on March 19 decided that its proposed additional amending budget for 2020 will include a supplementary system of support for short-time work schemes. The new system was presented on Monday by the Government, together with the Centre Party and the Liberal Party, and means that central government will take a greater share of the costs for short-time work in 2020. It is proposed that the new rules enter into force on 7 April, but that they apply from 16 March.

Ireland: Updated Employer Refund Scheme

gov.ie (20.03.2020) Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection, Regina Doherty provided an update on developments regarding her department’s Employer Refund Scheme. The new scheme allows the employer to pay the worker €203 and receive a refund from the State in the circumstances where the employer has ceased trading and as a result of financial difficulty have to temporarily lay off staff. Employers engaged with the scheme will be allowed to top up the payment provided by the State. The details are now being finalised and will be announced early next week.
