The Ministry of Economy announced on Monday (15) new measures to reduce the economic effects of the pandemic of the new coronavirus .

According to the government, R $ 147.3 billion will be used in emergency measures to help the most vulnerable sectors of the economy and groups of citizens, in addition to preventing high unemployment. Of this amount, R $ 83.4 billion should go to the poorest and / or the oldest population.

In presenting the measures, Guedes stated that the economic system responds to this type of pandemic in a similar way to the human body. "Just like this coronavirus, it affects the most vulnerable slices more. Older people are more vulnerable because the immune defense is lower," he said.

"The economy is the same. A resilient economy, with the part of fiscal fundamentals in place, firm structure, structural reforms, it maintains resilience and punctures this wave. Brazil is starting to re-accelerate the economy, there is turbulence and it has conditions to overcome that. It's three, four months. "

For the elderly , the main measure announced by the Ministry of Economy is the anticipation of the two installments of the 13th retirees and pensioners.

They are paid in April and May this year, freeing R $ 46 billion in the economy. According to the traditional schedule, these installments would be paid in August and December.

For the poorest population , the government informed that it will release about R $ 3 billion for Bolsa Família. The amount corresponds to the inclusion of over 1 million families among the beneficiaries - the government did not detail whether there will be a change in the income criteria for this membership.

The companies may postpone, within three months, the payment of the National Simple and the deposit of the Guarantee Fund for Employees (FGTS) workers. Contributions to Sistema S will be cut in half, and it will be easier to renegotiate credit and receive inputs from outside.

The government also announced the transfer of R $ 4.5 billion from the DPVAT fund - mandatory vehicular insurance - to fight the coronavirus, and the reduction of the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI) for domestic and imported products that are related to coping. disease.

The idea is that the R $ 147.3 billion will be injected into the economy in the next three months. The complete list includes measures that have already been announced since last Friday (12) , and new initiatives released on Monday.

"We also need to do the counterattack to mitigate the economic impacts. And the impacts can be serious. So what we are doing there is an initial effort. Despite this magnitude, it is initial. For you to see, this morning , with these measures of the CMN [National Monetary Council], in addition to the R $ 135 billion of reserve requirements that entered the economy on Friday, up to 600, almost R $ 700 billion could be extended in the economy, if the economy needed ", said Guedes.
