Zambia: High number of accidents in road, construction sectors worry WCFCB

News Diggers! (15.08.2019) The Workers Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB) has bemoaned the increasing number of accidents in the road and construction industries in Zambia saying labour is going to waste as a result of the incidents.

The Star (10.07.2019) A culture of prevention is not achievable if Malaysians accept that accidents are a normal occurrence in their daily lives, according to the Social Security Organisation (Socso) Malay   “If you want to achieve the prevention culture with good safety and health management, then it must first be ingrained in ourselves and our workers that we do not accept any accidents, all accidents must be avoided, and they are all preventable,” said Socso chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed.

WHO recognizes workplace 'burnout' as an occupational phenomenon

CNBC (28.05.2019) For the first time, the WHO has officially classified workplace burnout as an occupational phenomenon in its latest revision of the International Classification of Diseases. The agency previously defined burnout as a “state of vital exhaustion,” but this is the first time it’s being directly linked in its classification of diseases as a work hazard.

Cyprus: Etek calls for adoption of ‘Vision Zero” strategy for no labour accidents

InCyprus (27.05.2019) In view of a recent spike in work related accidents the Technical Chamber (Etek) has expressed concern at the lack of a ‘safety culture’ on the island.  The Technical Chamber has placed health and safety high up on its list of priorities and intensified its efforts in this direction. As part of its participation in the Pancyprian Health and Safety Council, it recently submitted specific proposals to reduce the number of labour accidents and work related illnesses

New Straits Times (15.05.2019) The International Labour Organisation estimated that globally, 2.3 million workers succumbed to occupational accidents and work-related diseases every year. In developing countries including Malaysia, this has emerged as a growing concern arising from the increasing number of work-related accidents which could result in deaths, injuries and major disabilities, sick leave, inability to work, temporary or permanent loss of jobs.
