Protecting Poor Thai Families from Economic Hardship

worldbank.org (31.08.2017) Thailand recently announced that it will put into action a national social assistance program for poor families. Such a program can help reduce poverty significantly. It would also move Thailand into the growing ranks of middle-income countries, such as China, Malaysia, Brazil, Turkey and the Philippines, that provide the poor with a ‘safety net’.

defenseurdesdroits.fr (03.08.2017) Le Défenseur des droits, Jacques Toubon publie aujourd’hui un rapport intitulé « Lutte contre la fraude aux prestations sociales : à quel prix pour les droits des usagers ? » dans lequel il a identifié et évalué les effets des dispositifs de lutte contre la fraude aux prestations sociales sur les droits des usagers des services publics. Il relève que l’usager est pris en tenaille entre une procédure déclarative d’accès aux prestations sociales, simplifiée mais propice aux erreurs et un dispositif de lutte contre la fraude de plus en plus étoffé.

$2m fund to tackle traffic fatalities at work

Straits Times (02.09.2017) A $2 million government fund has been set up to pay for research into technologies that can help reduce the number of wic accidents were the top cause of workplace fatalities between 2013 and last year, claiming 82 lives. More than half, or 57 per cent, of the accidents happened in worksites while the rest occurred on public roads.
