Lifelong training: A path to safety, labour culture and service quality improvement

The Catholic Workers’ Circle of the Uruguay Mutual Fund (Círculo Católico de Obreros del Uruguay Mutualista – CCOUM) is part of the integrated national health system in Uruguay. In this regard, it is a provider of total health coverage as it has been a link of the country’s social security system thanks to its mutual structure.

Currently, it has approximately 92,529 members and 2,239 workers, 679 (31 per cent) of whom are nursing staff.

The IMSS SER programme (Saludar, Escuchar, Responder – SER)

The IMSS SER program (saludar (greet), escuchar (listen) and responder (respond)) was jointly implemented in 2016 by the Mexican Social Security Institute (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social – IMSS) and the National Union of Social Security Workers to transform the culture of service of the IMSS, improve the work environment and enhance customer service for beneficiaries based on eight points:

A comprehensive health care model

Occupational accidents resulting in disability constitute a complex and multidimensional problem whose resolution transcends what is strictly provided for in the occupational accidents and diseases law (Law 16.744 of 1968). This problem impacts on the life opportunities of the affected people and results in vulnerabilities affecting not only them but also the institutions involved and society as a whole.

Design, implementation and evaluation of specific strategies to prevent and reduce worker absenteeism and sick leaves

Often, the interests of workers and employers are not the same, so addressing absenteeism as it relates to the health and safety of workers is an ethical and social commitment.

This good practice aims to reduce absenteeism arising from respiratory, musculoskeletal, mental and cardiac diseases, which are among the most frequent conditions among workers of the Catholic Workers’ Circle of the Uruguay Mutual Fund (Círculo Católico de Obreros del Uruguay Mutualista – CCOUM).

Documentation and workflow platform

This good practice comprises a workflow platform which automates a series of actions, activities and tasks performed by users when executing certain established processes. This allows work on the implementation and improvement of routine processes to be coordinated and organized. The platform integrates workflows, the requisite documentation, and internal and external services throughout the organization and allows processes to feed into one another which otherwise would be carried out in isolation.

Return to work: A foundational approach to return to function

Return to work is often not seen as a primary function of workers’ compensation systems, particularly in the United States. The International Association of Industrial Accident Boards & Commissions (IAIABC) is making a concerted effort to create a movement to help system stakeholders not only understand the value and benefits of return to work programs, but support them within their own organizations and in partnership with other system stakeholders.

A retirement support programme (Jornadas de Acompañamiento al Proceso Jubilatorio)

Since 1993, the Bank Employees’ Pension Fund (Caja de Jubilaciones y Pensiones Bancarias – CJPB) has been providing “Support Sessions for the Retirement Process” with the participation of thousands of members.

The event targets members and their partners who have recently retired or are approaching the end of their working life, in order to help them in their retirement process and assist in the development of a “Second Life Plan” through workshops that promote personal development and generate rewarding, productive and healthy daily routines.

Policy framework for the collection and use of publicly available personal information in the administration of the OAS and CPP programmes

The Old Age Security (OAS) and the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) programs are Canada’s public pensions programs. The OAS program is a residence based program which provides a minimum income to seniors to contribute to their income replacement in retirement. The CPP program is a mandatory, contributory, earnings-related social insurance program which provides partial income replacement for workers in Canada and their families in the event of retirement, disability or death.
