The social services will make up units that are delivered daily comprising a hygiene kit, and food and drink to the homeless. They will also explain the measures to prevent catching coronavirus, will take their temperature and advise them as necessary.

Social canteens will be set up to hand out food to be taken away. Centres for the homeless will also receive additional attention with health workers that are provided with protective equipment, to control the health of the social care team and residents, adopt preventive measures, identify those potentially infected and isolate or send those potentially infected to another centre. In addition, cleaning and disinfection services will be stepped up, both for the centre and for the clothes and belongings of residents.

The government's plan provides for the setting up of large areas to accommodate, feed, guarantee the hygiene and care for the homeless, with social and healthcare professionals, with the possibility of isolation zones for people affected, thus reducing the capacity and long queues at current centres in order to minimise the risk of contagion.

Given the possibility that social services may be overrun by so much work in the different care areas, cooperation with the armed forces may become necessary to meet the social demand.

Specifically, professionals from the civil protection authorities, the armed forces and the State law enforcement agencies, accompanied by social service personnel, will monitor the situation of the homeless, step up support for social centres, food distribution, the provision of social canteens and the enablement of the necessary spaces on a daily basis.
