President Taneti Maamau (23.08.2020) Given this ongoing closure of borders, stranded nationals abroad will continue to receive Government’s financial assistance until additional notice is made following the review of border closure at the end of August 2020. This assistance is implemented to ensure I-Kiribati nationals stranded overseas are supported during this unfortunate situation.

The Government of Kiribati has advised that current border closures will be extended until the end of August while preparatory measures are undertaken in Kiribati to ensure health and public safety against the Covid19 pandemic. During the extension of the border closures, Kiribati will continue to work on building its national capacity in order to withstand the pressures brought on by the pandemic.

Given this ongoing closure of borders, stranded nationals abroad will continue to receive Government’s financial assistance until additional notice is made following the review of border closure at the end of August 2020. This assistance is implemented to ensure I-Kiribati nationals stranded overseas are supported during this unfortunate situation.

Furthermore, the provision of medical supplies and cargoes will continue during this state of border closure to ensure necessary support to strengthen the national health system and to support the needs of the people, in accordance to national safety procedures and protocols established to prevent the spread of Covid19.

The Government hereby appeals to the general public and our partners for their continued cooperation and understanding as work progresses to safeguard the health of all.
