Specifically, in the Official Letter No. 848/BHXH-GDDBHYT1 dated March 19, 2020, Hanoi Social Security’s request says: When the patients diagnosed with chronic diseases come for medical examination or re-examination by appointment, the health insurance facilities must provide the outpatients with medicine for at least two months.

The aforementioned regulation is to guide health insurance facilities to deal with the complicated situation of the COVID-19 epidemic in the locality; restrict people from going outside or going to health facilities multiple times, reducing the risk of exposure to pathogens. At the same time, the regulation also aims to concretize the Official Letter No. 1386/BCDQG of the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control towards the patients, the elderly and electronic health declaration.

In addition to the provision of outpatient medicine for at least two months, Hanoi Social Security also requires medical examination and treatment facilities to guide patients to return unused drugs for other patients on their request of treatment. This case will be applicable if the patient is re-examined before the appointment due to unusual symptoms that require medication changes.
