Objectives of the ISSA Guidelines on Prevention of Occupational Risks

These Guidelines focus on the prevention and administration of occupational accidents, diseases and other work-related health risks. They form part of a broader concept of prevention which includes proactive and preventive approaches to social security, addressing the prevention of occupational risks, health promotion and return to work.

The ISSA Guidelines on Prevention of Occupational Risks addresses occupational risks that are insured by social security institutions. It provides guidance on how social security institutions can develop and promote prevention activities that cover occupational accidents and occupational diseases.

Field Inspection Development "RASED"

This good practice allows employer, contributor, & the General Organization for Social Insurance "GOSI" to save effort & cost by completing the inspection's cycle electronically in a timely manner. In fact, we understand the importance role of inspection in enlightening the employers in applying the system, and regulations correctly in their entities. A new system RASED was integrated with GOSI main system to fetch all inspection data. Also, it will assign the field visits according to the best suitable available inspector.

Pre-recruitment Medical Examinations

Performing pre-recruitment medical examinations or performing it during the first year of employment of the worker is necessary to assess the physical and mental capacity of the worker. In this regard: 1- The medical booklets of all of the main insured are issued with the validity of 2 month to make them undergo the medical examinations. 2- All the main insured persons with less than 1 year of employment and contribution payment in the last workplace who apply for receiving short-term liabilities shall undergo medical examinations or their situation in this regard shall be determined.

Tongzhou Program for the Chinese Work Injury Insurance

Aiming to resolve the problems in construction industry, such as high work-related injury risks, flexible employment and high mobility of construction workers, China has implemented the “Tongzhou Program”, i.e. the specific social insurance expansion program for the construction industry workers. The program requires the construction industry to join the social insurance coverage in terms of each building project, exploring a new coverage pattern of dynamic real-name registration management.

Commuting Safety Support Program (CSSP). A case of Social Security Organization Malaysia (SOCSO)

Commuting Safety Support Program (CSSP) was introduced in 2017 by Social Security Organization (SOSCO) Malaysia in collaboration with Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). The main objective of this program is to facilitate employers in implementing good commuting safety management at the workplaces through practical intervention. The project aims to reduce commuting accidents among motorcyclists and was initiated through business engagement and smart partnership with various stakeholders.

StartSAFE – A doorstep programme for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in building risk management capabilities

StartSAFE is a programme designed to help SMEs identify WSH hazards at their Workplaces and recommend solutions for implementation at an affordable cost. Since November 2016, the WSH consultancy with 8 consultants appointed by WSH Council, had visited 1,000 SME business owners in the Hospitality & Entertainment, Retail and Food Services. Through the programme, 5,445 hazards and close to 60 percent were rectified immediately. This translated to preventing 3,267 potential incidents.
