The "WorkRight" initiative: Raising compliance

The "WorkRight" initiative is a national employment rights protection campaign which aims to uplift low-wage Singaporeans by ensuring good employment standards and retirement adequacy.

To achieve these outcomes, the "WorkRight" initiative raises workers' awareness of their employment rights, ensures employers fulfill their obligations under Singapore's employment laws, and targets improving compliance levels in low-wage sectors (retail, food and beverage, cleaning and security services).

Guaranteeing employees' rights through wage protection

The Wage Protection System (WPS) is a joint programme between the Ministry of Labour (MOL) and the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI), and it has been built to be the wage repository for all workers to assure wages are affectively deposited to workers bank accounts and are also reported correctly to GOSI. The system requires all employers to generate a wage file which is compliant with the WPS specification.

Toward 100% coverage: Proactive registration of non-Saudi workers

Registering employees as contributors in GOSI's (General Organization for Social Insurance) system as soon as they are employed by establishments is a vital step as it ensures the social security of those employees. Unfortunately employers sometimes are late in registering their employees, or the registration might contain missing or incorrect information, which can be detrimental to their wellbeing, and this usually happens to expatriate workers.

Policies and procedures project

The Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI) has been responsible for developing internal policies and procedures to facilitate customers' access to the deliverables set by the Social Insurance Law.

PASI's goal is to ensure that all policies and procedures are made available to all staff and that they are written in such a way as to clearly specify the policies and procedures for any given matter.

Electronic collection of contributions

In its efforts to enhance and facilitate the services and operations, the Social Security Corporation (SSC) has introduced a new electronic collection tool. This channel of collection is based on depositing and transferring the accrued contributions from covered establishments and voluntary contributors. This initiative is currently available through the SSC website (www.ssc.gov.jo) and is called eFAWATEERcom.

Biometric identification

Biometric identification is a method of identifying socially insured persons using their fingerprints and a photograph. The insured person is given a card after the identification process has taken place. The card holds all the information about the career of the insured person.
