Coronavirus: NAV accepts sick leave and medical certificates without personal attendance

All patients are now encouraged to contact the physician on the phone - regardless of what it is. The doctor will then assess whether personal attendance is required.

During the corona pandemic, NAV accepts sick leave without personal attendance, regardless of the patient's diagnosis. The same applies to other types of medical certificates. The doctor assesses whether it is professionally justifiable to write a sick leave or medical certificate without personal attendance.

NAV also accepts sick leave reports from manual therapists and chiropractors without personal attendance, as long as they consider it to be professionally sound.

Self-report for the first 16 days

Those who suspect that they are infected with coronavirus, or who are required to be quarantined, are encouraged to consult with the employer if they can use self-notification for the first 16 days (employer period). Employers have been encouraged by the authorities to accept self-notification during this period.

However, patients should not refrain from contacting the physician if needed.

Phone or e-consultation

NAV now encourages patients to use the telephone. E-consultation can also be used. The person reporting the patient is considering how the examination should be carried out.

No medical certificate required to use care days

Employees, freelancers and self-employed persons have the right to use care days if the kindergarten or school closes due to the coronavirus. The Storting has decided to remove the requirement for a medical certificate when paying care money.

The amendments were adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers on March 20, 2020, in a  temporary regulation on exemptions from the National Insurance Act and the Working Environment Act in connection with the covid-19 pandemic
