The General Organization for Social Insurance "GOSI" in Saudi Arabia broadly covers workers in private sector and a group of workers in public sector who are not covered by the Public Pension Agency "PPA". GOSI has a strategic objective, which is to enhance participation and coverage in insurance schemes, and this is aligned with the Saudi Vision 2030 to reduce unemployment rates, enhance practical experiences of the youth and encourage them to explore freelance work. Therefore, GOSI have been working in partnership with other government and private entities towards achieving this objective. One of these partnerships was the "Freelance Work Program", which is a national initiative supported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Development "MLSD", Human Resources Development Fund "HRDF" and General organization for Social Insurance. The program aims to raise stability of the national workforce, create more and better-quality jobs and encourage people to explore freelance work by providing social insurance for these workers. The program is targeting both female and male freelance workers in the Saudi labour market. The freelance workers can utilize the program incentives by registering in the program online and the government will support them by paying their GOSI contribution for two years.
