The ESIC has taken the following measures to proactively improve the scheme:
-
Employers can now pay online with all 58 scheduled banks (about 85% of the employers now comply online) providing an easy payment method for employers, reducing collection costs to ESIC and ensuring effective monitoring of compliance.
-
Workers in the low income group, i.e. Rs.137 per day (about $ 2.3 per day), have been exempted from paying contributions, long-term benefits have been increased, the amount available under other cash benefits e.g. funeral benefit, or confinement allowance, etc. has also been enhanced.
-
Toll Free numbers for enquiries, 24x7 help line for medical advice, interaction opportunities during 1cSuvidhaSamagam 1d (Facilitation Conclave) etc. have provided platforms for stakeholders to clarify issues and redress their grievances. Over 7,100 Facilitation Conclaves were organized during 2014-2015.
- To prevent subjectivity and enhance transparency, a New Inspection Policy has been introduced. Under this policy, the inspection list is drawn by the system on predefined objective criteria. A Central Analysis and Intelligence Unit (CAIU) was also set up at corporate level to monitor compliance.
