In establishing a framework for prevention, the institution ensures the full participation of social partners and competent state authorities from the outset.

Positive communication at this level is essential in order to gain acceptance and support. These stakeholders must be kept informed and involved from the very beginning and throughout the process.

  • The management should establish permanent, or temporary (on specific issues), prevention committees involving the social partners, to discuss and plan prevention services and activities and to prepare proposals for submission to the board.
  • Such committees should be involved in any amendments to the list of occupational diseases or in assessing the link of any newly recognized pathology not on the list to the occupational exposure nature of a disease. Representatives from competent state authorities might also be involved in these committees.
  • The management should ensure that the board meeting agenda regularly includes the topic of prevention (e.g. new developments, recent reports, reports on occupational accidents and diseases, new prevention projects and campaigns).
