Interoperability Standard for Social Protection Bodies (INTEROPS)

In 2004, the Ministry for Social Affairs launched a study between the various bodies to define the joint rules applying to the interoperability of information systems. This study resulted in the definition of the INTEROPS standard in 2008. In principle, this standard is based on trust between the bodies. It is intended for officials working for the bodies and offers a secure system of extension of access and authorization rights and guarantees traceability. It is available in two forms of communication:

Systemic electronic exchange of data

The Social Security Corporation (SSC) in its efforts to enhance and improve the quality of services has started to link electronically with the main stakeholders' databases. Actually, the systemic electronic exchange of data between SSC and the partners, stakeholders, and counterparts stems from its strategic orientation to deliver high quality services. To achieve this, SSC has signed bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding with both private and public sector organizations.

Toward 100% coverage: Proactive registration of non-Saudi workers

Registering employees as contributors in GOSI's (General Organization for Social Insurance) system as soon as they are employed by establishments is a vital step as it ensures the social security of those employees. Unfortunately employers sometimes are late in registering their employees, or the registration might contain missing or incorrect information, which can be detrimental to their wellbeing, and this usually happens to expatriate workers.

Development of an IT master plan

This Ministry faces different administrative, operational, technological and reporting challenges with respect to its current delivery approach for social security services. With time, the present procedures and relevant IT system have shown limits in terms of response to modern demands for quicker and better service provision. Government decided to review the present system with a view to enhance service delivery through a modern IT infrastructure. Its objective is to transition to e-services so that the citizens have anytime and anywhere access to the services.
