Commuting Safety Support Program (CSSP). A case of Social Security Organization Malaysia (SOCSO)

Commuting Safety Support Program (CSSP) was introduced in 2017 by Social Security Organization (SOSCO) Malaysia in collaboration with Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). The main objective of this program is to facilitate employers in implementing good commuting safety management at the workplaces through practical intervention. The project aims to reduce commuting accidents among motorcyclists and was initiated through business engagement and smart partnership with various stakeholders. Improvement in commuting safety will result in a positive impact on working conditions, productivity, economic and social development. The strategy is to implement Commuting Safety Support Program to address the increasing number of commuting accidents based on SIRIM 4: 2014 Good Practices in Implementing Commuting Safety Management Guidelines. The steps involved in the program are: • Gap Analysis/Baseline on commuting safety at the workplace • CSSP Training for Employer and Employees • CSSP Intervention at the workplace by participating employers and employees • CSSP Evaluation The result has shown that 76% of the workplaces involved with the program has achieved a minimum of 10% reduction of commuting accident. Participants showed changes in behaviour towards wearing personal protective gear while riding such as helmets and vests, which the results showed a reduction of 21 % of their dominant riding behaviour after the program. Approaches such as Vision Zero Initiatives can be useful tools for the abovementioned systematic approach. To fully utilized the method, membership as a Vision Zero partners is essential
