Electronic death data exchange

The Croatian Pension Insurance Institute (CPII) receives the death data for Croatian pension beneficiaries residing abroad on the principle of delivered Life Certificates and letters received from the competent foreign pension institutions. That way, CPII receives the beneficiaries' death data after a certain delay thereby causing possible undue payments of pension amounts.

In order to prevent such undue payments of pensions and aiming to reduce the costs of printing and posting of Life Certificates, the CPII started establishing the project for death data exchange with individual foreign social security institutions.

Data are being exchange on a monthly basis, before processing of data for the payment of pension in each county, as to suspend in a timely way the payment of pensions to beneficiaries whose death has been reported and to avoid any undue pension payments.

By introducing death data exchange in the period from March 2014 to December 2015 CPII achieved total savings of € 933,329.
