Guideline 22. Change management and communication

Communication is a strategic tool in change management. Information is provided on what the change is, why it is necessary, what will be the benefits, and how and when it will be implemented. Good communications allow for issues to be quickly identified and addressed while maintaining momentum and building acceptance for the change.

  • In communicating the change, the communication unit should ensure that the messaging is relevant to the audience and conveyed appropriately.
  • If applicable, the communication unit in collaboration with the ICT unit should ensure the availability of internal online platforms to receive feedback on the implementation of the innovation.
  • Face-to-face communication should be privileged when appropriate and practical.

  • The Head of Management should be the lead communicator on change management and should provide appropriate information on why the change is necessary, the expected improvements to be gained, and the impact on employees.
  • The communication unit should actively support efforts of the Head of Management and the internal units that are initiating the change, by proposing a communication plan on changes that defines the communication roles of each level of management involved.
