The Public Service Pensions Fund (PSPF) was established in 1999 to serve public servants employed in the central government and executive agencies. The PSPF operates two schemes, the mandatory scheme and the supplementary scheme. To date the Fund serves 340,098 contributing members in the mandatory scheme, 91,137 members in the supplementary scheme and has 77,508 pensioners.

Administrative solutions for the extension of coverage: improving member access to administrative and socio-medical services

Faced with the disparity and geographical decentralization of its members and poor medical coverage, the General Mutual Fund for Civil Service Employees (Mutuelle générale du personnel des administrations publiques – MGPAP) has developed its local activities through two projects:

  1. Local medical programmes.
  2. Expansion of geographical presence through partnerships with the local authorities and government.
     

Adjudication of social assistance appeals

The Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) was established in 2008 to give effect to section 33 of the Constitution of South Africa and domestic legislation relating to the Promotion of Administrative Justice. The ITSAA is responsible for adjudicating appeals received from disgruntled social grant applicants and beneficiaries following grant applications or reviews by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

PRADO – Post-hospitalization Home Return Assistance Programme

PRADO (Programmes d’accompagnement du retour à domicile après hospitalisation) is a program that aims to shorten the length of hospital stays to meet the needs of patients who wish to return home sooner. It is means of reducing the average hospital stay, in order to improve cost efficiency in hospitals and the quality of overall patient care.

PRADO was implemented in 2010. It relies on:
