The Department of Social Security (DSS) in Malta falls under the responsibility of the Ministry for the Family and Social Solidarity (MFSS).  The DSS has continuously strived to find new ways to simplify and streamline its operations to offer a better service level to its customers. The payment of means-tested Children’s Allowance (CA) and Supplementary Allowance (SPA) were two processes identified during 2015 as processes requiring simplification.  The processes supporting both non-contributory benefits were inefficient and time consuming for the department as well as beneficiaries.  Action was undertaken to re-engineer these two key processes to enable the DSS closer to its efficiency goals and to render the process less labour intensive for DSS employees and more simplified for beneficiaries.
