INNOVATIONS TO EMPOWER PRIMARY HEALTH CARE (PHC) AS GATEKEEPER SYSTEM: P-CARE WEB BASED APPLICATION OF THE SOCIAL HEALTH SECURITY AGENCY INDONESIA (BPJS KESEHATAN)

Being one of the largest coverage for health social security in the world, which covering almost 150 million memberships within its first year of implementation, the Social Health Security Agency of Indonesia (BPJS Kesehatan) is holding its commitment Indonesia 19s experience in conducting National Health Coverage (JKN) program.  Using the referral procedures (managed care) to deliver the health services to the members by using the primary care to the members as their first point of health service contact had BPJS Kesehatan facing challenging issues of administration and quality. Social security administrators usually facing intense challenges to evaluate performance of individual primary care provider. 

BPJS Kesehatan is concerned to innovate to keep up with the challenge to accelerate an efficient and effective operation.  The management is seeing it as a way out to encounter the problem faced in order to deliver the expected result for the stakeholders.

In this  respect, BPJS Kesehatan has recently managed some innovations to make sure that the primary care perform their role as gatekeeper and as the first contact for the members.
