The institution offers non-financial incentives to employers who establish workplace health promotion programmes.

The advantages and disadvantages of each incentive and the circumstances in which they will be used should be carefully considered before making a decision to proceed.

  • The management should:
    • Produce awareness-raising and marketing materials for clients;
    • Allocate resources to the recruitment process;
    • Develop criteria for judging applications for certification/award/accreditation;
    • Develop and publish guidance for enterprises/organizations seeking certification/award/accreditation;
    • Identify people with expertise who can serve as verifiers (in-house or externally) for the form of certification/award/accreditation chosen;
    • Allocate sufficient resources to develop, pilot and evaluate the certification/award/accreditation that is to be used;
    • Allocate sufficient resources to maintain the programme.

  • The board/management should carefully consider non-financial incentives for workplace health promotion programmes, recognizing the benefits and risks of such incentives.
  • The board/management should use a system of option appraisal to identify the most advantageous and appropriate incentive schemes for the social security institution and the enterprises/organizations to which it provides services.
  • If an award scheme is to be developed, the board/management should review existing award/accreditation schemes in order to learn from their experience.
  • The board/management should decide whether the certification/award/accreditation process will be free to the user, operate on a cost recovery basis or be set up to generate profit.
