The social security institution supports a workplace review to identify existing structures and activities which support workplace health promotion and develop a health profile of the target population.

  • The workplace health promotion team should gather data relevant to a general health profile of the target population, including:
    • Population and employment context:
      • Size of the target population;
      • Age and gender;
      • Economic sectors in which the enterprise/organization operates;
      • Size of the enterprise/organization;
      • Workplace organization, including working time arrangements;
      • Working conditions.
    • Health profile:
      • Occupational diseases, accidents at work, work-related health problems;
      • Compensation claims/health benefits;
      • Absenteeism rates;
      • Medical screening, health checks, health risk appraisals.
    • When designing data collection, the workplace health promotion team should pay special attention to specific groups within the broad target group (e.g. vulnerable groups such as temporary workers, pregnant women, people with impairment or disability).
    • The management should ensure that sufficient information and communication technology (ICT) resources underpin data collection and analysis, e.g. to manage multiple data sources, and that strict data confidentiality protocols are observed.
    • The ICT professionals should ensure that database design establishes a clear baseline for data monitoring and evaluation.
    • The workplace health promotion team should employ a range of review and data collection methodologies, including desk research, interviews and group discussions.

  • The workplace health promotion team should develop a profile of the health status of the target population.
