A reduction to 25% of the current Minimum Contribution Base (BMC in) in health and pension insurance, is what the Fund approved as part of the actions to support the national economy in the face of the health emergency by Covid-19. The BMC is the base salary for which all workers must contribute to both insurances. The BMC is the base salary for which all workers must contribute to both types of insurance. For health insurance, it changed from ₡294.619 to ₡73.654. For pension insurance, it went from ₡275.759 to ₡68.639. Nearly 80% of the Fund's income comes from employer and worker contributions and this measure is in line with the law approved yesterday by the Legislative Assembly that will allow employers to reduce their workers' working hours. The effect is that, if a worker's workday is reduced, since the Fund has lowered its minimum contribution base, both the employer and the worker will benefit.
