Updating social benefits

The most common complaint made by those insured by the National Social Insurance Fund (Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale – CNaPS) relates to the amount of social benefits granted: the amount of several benefits has been set as a standard amount such that any changes require the legal texts to be amended. Moreover, the conditions for obtaining old age insurance benefits no longer reflect today’s context, given the state of the labour market following the successive crises experienced by the country. Thus some workers are granted contribution refunds, which is also the case for the dependants of workers who died before pensionable age. With a view to bringing the benefits up to date, the CNaPS has carried out a number of studies aimed at improving benefits by indexing their calculation to salaries, which are constantly evolving, and setting new conditions for the granting of old-age insurance benefits. As social contributions have not increased, the viability of the various social protection branches has been taken into account in the adoption of these measures.
