In 2004, the Ministry for Social Affairs launched a study between the various bodies to define the joint rules applying to the interoperability of information systems. This study resulted in the definition of the INTEROPS standard in 2008. In principle, this standard is based on trust between the bodies. It is intended for officials working for the bodies and offers a secure system of extension of access and authorization rights and guarantees traceability. It is available in two forms of communication:

• the application to application mode or web services interchange
• the portal to portal mode for web browsing.

INTEROPS observes international technical standards (SOAP, SAML, XML, SSLV3, etc.) and its specifications are available to the public:(https://www.ateliers.modernisation.gouv.fr/ministeres/ae/interops/public)

It is now used for data interchange projects by all social protection bodies. Studies on the changes to the standard for the purpose of taking into account new requirements and envisaging making it available to other populations and bodies are in progress.
