These are physical spaces located in the workplace prepared and equipped to provide privacy, hygiene, and comfort to the employee during the breastfeeding stage. There, she can breastfeed the baby and/or express breast milk, to store it and extend its use. Several evidence-based scientific studies show the benefits of breastfeeding in the short, mid and long-term regarding the improvement of the population's health. We can highlight the reduction in the risks of contracting prevalent diseases such as diarrhea, respiratory tract infections, diabetes type I and II in adolescents, high blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia and lymphomas, among others. It reduces the prevalence of breast or ovarian cancer in women, requiring fewer investments in healthcare. It reduces maternity absences from work due to ill children, since children will be less prone to contracting diseases and/or they will contract less serious diseases. Feeling supported and accompanied in this stage, the mother feels motivated and more committed to her tasks, which increases her productivity.
This low-cost project is easy to implement and provides great benefits for the population's health.
