The institution has the legal mandate and policy framework to engage in prevention and return-to-work activities. Where legislation does not support effective return-to-work and sustainable employability outcomes, statutory changes are advocated that will mandate the institution to do so.

  • The management should use the flexibility allowed by the legislative framework to design innovative programmes and measures. Many such possibilities exist in areas of improved digital collaboration, with due regard to the protection of personal information and data privacy.
  • The management supports and contributes to the policy-making process by promoting the development, analysis and optimization of new or existing initiatives.
  • Staff providing support in the return-to-work and employability process should have solid proficiency and very good knowledge of statutory regulations and limitations in governing their institution’s operational activities and responsibilities, and have to respect them.

  • The institution should ensure that the governing legislation, rules and regulations allow the implementation of proactive return-to-work and sustainable employability initiatives.
  • The management should draw up a strategic plan to ensure that return-to-work programmes comply with legislative obligations.
