Mechanism
- There should be a development programme to support the skills of management and heads of internal units on speaking, listening, asking questions and giving feedback.
- The communication unit should ensure that speakers are well-prepared for communication activities.
- The communication unit should establish a mechanism through which internal and external stakeholders may provide feedback on the communication process itself, the issues raised during the interaction and areas for improvement.
- On major issues he/she can be the institution’s “face” and spokesperson who engages with the institution’s external audience, and sets the tone for internal and external communication.
- Other official spokespersons may be designated to engage on specific issues, for example championing a particular aspect such as diversity, service quality, innovation, gender equality, etc.
